Potty = Karate
My Little Girl is really growing up. She turned three last month. She was done with the pacifier long before that and now she is very focused on potty training. Dad tried to put her in a diaper this morning and she said, "No! I want to go potty!" It helps that her counterpart at daycare (a little boy a few months older than her) has been working very hard on this skill also. His reward was to be able to go to ballet class. I went to pick her up from daycare the other day and she was jumping up and down begging to go to ballet class if she uses the potty.
Also, somehow Dad got her into the idea of Karate. I think it was that weekend we were watching the Kung Fu channel and she plopped herself down right in front of the TV, entranced. I think it is a great idea. I told her that she can't go to Karate class until she learns how to use the potty though. She reminds us often, "When I go potty, then I can go to Karate class!"
She has been making such an effort lately to go potty that I had to start looking around for a class for her! I was a little worried that I wouldn't find something for such a young age, but there is a Karate school in our area that takes pre-schoolers. I'm so excited to show her their website and explain how class will work. She really has no idea what "school" or "class" really means, so I am going to work on that with her a little bit. I want to make sure her expectations are correct so she is not confused or disappointed when we go. It is only a half hour class and according to the teacher, it is really more focused on "learning to be attentive to an instructor and being able to translate verbal physical instruction into getting their bodies (and minds) to be able to execute the instructions. It is presumed that the children don't have these skills coming in, and there is no "pressure" or timeline for learning these skills - just encouragement and activities that produce them." I hope she likes it and has fun. If she does, they have a family class on Saturdays that all of us could participate in.
